  Kudditji Kngwarreye

Kudditji Kngwarreye is a highly collectible artist.
Born in the 1920's, Kudditji is the brother of the famous Emily Kame Kngwarreye (dec.1996). Kudditji is an Anmatyerre elder and custodian of many important Dreamings in Utopia, including the Emu Dreaming. Initially inspired by the Papunya art style, Kudditji began painting precisely dotted hieroglyphic works in the 1980s that retold the travels and law of the Emu ancestors. In the 1990s, his works became more abstract, with commentators seeing a similarity with Emily's styles. He used a heavily laden brush to sweep broadly across the canvas in stages, painting the elements of his Dreamings as he mentally crossed the landscape. The result is works that create a sense of immense space, where large blocks of stippled color are juxtaposed, producing a unique bird’s eye view of his sacred landscape. In 2007 Kudditji was named one of the 50 most collectible artists in Australia.
